The UM team placed third and is invited to compete in the National Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl being held in Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 5, 2009 as part of the Annual Conference of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics.
The students representing UM at the regional competition and who will go on to the national competition are:
Alaina Brandhurst, Senior, Industrial Engineering
Rachael Goldberg, Sophomore, Political Science, Psychology
Haley Kornfield, Sophomore, Political Science
Josh Kornfield, Freshman, Undeclared
Robert Levine, Sophomore, Economics, Finance & Accounting
Daniel Rosenberg, Sophomore, History, attended as the alternate.
“It was my privilege to mentor our UM Ethics Debaters, all enthusiastic members of our UM Ethics Society, who dedicated hours of time to prepare and present their arguments,” said Anita Cava, director of the Business Ethics Program and co-director of UM Ethics Programs. “We lost our semi-final round to UNC by one point -- a team of four seniors and one fifth-year senior, each of whom majored in philosophy. I couldn’t be more proud of our students.”
